Manteno State Mental Hospital - pictures from a past investigation

Many years ago I went on several investigations to Manteno. It's pretty famously haunted, especially if you are an Illinois resident, you'll no doubt have heard one of the many legends associated with this dreary and rather sad place.

While individual and group experiences were had during one of our night time jaunts there, including a clear-as-day EVP that said 'Im a Doctor' (resulting in a sleepless night for me) and visual manifestations, I wanted to just post some of the pictures from a daytime recce I had as a prelude to an night investigation. I had a cheapo disposable black and white camera I picked up from Walgreens and just wanted to get some shots. I think it shows a good example of the desolation that resides within the walls, and makes you wonder just what went on under that roof. Whether there are ghosts lurking there or not, it's a humble reminder of our mortality, and how easily things can be forgotten and left to be reclaimed by nature.

Water damage to the interior ceiling

Cautiously climbing a ladder to look in the loft area.

One of the hallways that connects the main buildings together.

Desolation.

It's odd seeing remnants of those who used to live/work there. The stories these walls could tell!

Investigating one of the areas that held the ice baths.

...and an ice bath.

More examples of the deterioration of the interior.

Bathroom.

Hole in the roof.

Sadly, even in areas like this, away from built up areas, vandalism still rears its ugly head.
